Frontex will organise in December 2016 a workshop with European Industry and Academia which lead (or are about to start/are in the incubation phase of ideas on) research and development projects aimed at developing new products, technologies, solutions for border security and using financial sources other than EU financing (e.g. Industry’s/Academia’s own funds).

Frontex proposes to initiate a series of workshops between Industry, Academia and experts from the Member States Border Guard Authorities having as purpose to invite the former (Industry and Academia) to present to the border guard community mature/proper methodolgies/methods/best practices/procedures on how to plan, design and conduct (including data collection and evaluation) effective tests/assessments of different border security technologies in the real field, able to produce useful and objective measures of technology performance and effectiveness.

The Brochure has been elaborated as a follow up of the Exhibition and workshops organized in 2014 and dedicated to the European funded projects in the field of border security.

The project proposes to bring the European ongoing and new border security research projects to the attention of the relevant stakeholders, in order to put the real needs under the light of research, thus ensuring that the projects’ results will best serve the requirements of border security.
The project proposes also to contribute to the capacity building process bringing to the attention of the Border Guard Authorities new and innovative approaches (e.g. Pre-Commercial Procurement instrument) designed to acquire research and development services and related results, with the purpose of steering the development of new innovations towards their needs.
